What to Expect During Your Family Session

A warm, relaxed, connection-driven experience for families across Marco Island, Naples, Bonita Springs, and Fort Myers.

Booking a family session should feel exciting, not overwhelming.

Whether you’re a local family or visiting Southwest Florida for vacation, many parents come to me wondering what the session will actually feel like once we’re together on the beach or in one of SWFL’s beautiful locations.

My goal is always the same, to create a calm, comfortable experience where your family can truly be yourselves while I gently guide you through the moments that become your favorite memories.

This is exactly what you can expect during your SWFL family photography session with me.

I’m Mellie, and I’m here to give families in SW FLORIDA a meaningful, stress-free photography experience that feels natural and full of heart.

My Approach is Simple...

Warm, Gentle, and Family-First

I always begin by finding the right light and a spot that feels natural and inviting.

Once we settle in, I guide you into simple movements to help everyone loosen up, walking together, light bumps of the hip, snuggling in close, or simply looking at one another. Think of it as subtle direction rather than stiff posing. I guide you into a moment, then let your family’s natural connection take over.

This is how I create the images you’re drawn to: warm, candid storytelling, soft interactions, genuine emotion. There will always be a few traditional portraits mixed in, but the heart of your session is built on connection and ease.

How the Session Will Feel

Your SWFL session is relaxed, un-rushed, and intentionally designed so your family never feels pressured.

I take my time, move slow, and let your kids ease into the experience naturally. The goal is for this to feel like a gentle pause in your day, a chance to be present together in a beautiful place.

Almost every family tells me how surprisingly fun and comfortable it felt, even the ones who thought their kids might not cooperate or who were nervous to be in front of the camera. It's always a good time!

Kids Lead the Way

As a mom of three, I understand how unpredictable children can be, especially in a new place.

That’s why my approach always meets them where they are. When they arrive, I get down to their level and start building trust immediately. If they’re shy, wild, curious, or somewhere in between, that’s perfectly okay.

The best thing you can do is let them be themselves.

Play, laugh, explore, get sandy, collect shells, run through the tide. Kids warm up quickly when they feel free, and the candid moments that come from that always become some of your favorite images.

the purest parts of childhood.

What makes SWFL special for Family Photos?

Our coastline gives families the perfect backdrop for relaxed, meaningful imagery:

  • soft dunes in Marco Island
  • golden light in Naples
  • warm breeze in Bonita Springs
  • wide open shoreline in Fort Myers
  • peaceful paths in Lovers Key

Each location brings something unique, but the feeling stays the same... gentle, warm, and full of movement.

The Flow of Your Session

The difference is in how you feel.

Your session will typically last up to an hour. That gives us space to settle in, explore the area, and let natural moments unfold.

I’ll guide you the entire time, gently shifting you into new interactions and prompts that feel natural and true to your family.

Think:

  • slow movement
  • a little adventure
  • soft light
  • honest interaction
  • a calm, un-rushed experience

This is where storytelling thrives.

Letting your little ones play in the water, wander, and explore is where the real beauty shows up; soft, natural, and completely them.

“Play is the language of childhood, and the memories it creates last a lifetime.”

Your Family’s Story,

Told Naturally

Your gallery will feel like a collection of real moments, the ones that happen in between the poses. The way your child reaches for your hand. The way you laugh when they run through the water.

The way your family moves together without even thinking about it.

These are the images that last.
